Why 'AKAYA'?

AKAYA originates from the combination of two adinkra symbols; symbols from Ghana that represent important concepts/aphorisms based on traditional wisdom, aspects of life or the environment.

AKAYA

Symbol of the Heart.

Signifying love, good

health, unity and

goodwill.

Symbol of the Endurance and Resourcefulness.

The strength to rise again and again.

Together, AKAYA represents who we serve.

Girls who are full of heart, hope and resilience.

Why does AKAYA exist?

Young women and girls across the world are still being left behind. In Sub-Saharan Africa, millions face barriers to education, menstrual health, and safety. In the UK, young Black women navigate systemic racism, underrepresentation, and bias that threaten their confidence and potential.

AKAYA exists to change this by creating safe, empowering spaces where girls are seen, supported, and equipped to lead.

The world still isn't built for Her.
So we're
rebuilding it.

What happens when we overcome the barriers?

We see empowered, stable and resilient women with a reduced likelihood of early child marriage, gender-based violence and mortality.
